Nine Inch Nails Imitation

Monday, July 10th, 2006

My awesome RT389 professor told everyone in class to pick a band. Didn’t give us a reason, but it wouldn’t take a genius to guess we’d have to cover that band. Had I known this for sure and had more time to consider, I may have picked a different band. But alas, too late and I chose Nine Inch Nails because they are easily imitated (though never duplicated).

My own complaints about this song:

  • The poppy percussion sounds in the beginning (and near the middle) are really loud and smack of amateur.
  • At 2:00, right after the first “chorus,” the song gets really dull. The pads aren’t spooky enough and it’s just boring. I wanted to put some kind of creepy animal noises or more whispering in there, but..
  • The whispering is creepy. I hate it. But, seriously, anyone would prefer it to the laughable singing I attempted and then immediately deleted.
  • The drums are terribly monotonous during the “choruses” (note the use of quotes, because most choruses have vocals).
  • The guitar sounds awful, flat and toneless. I wish I had better processors and had let it carry out longer.

So yeah good luck enjoying.
